pinoy breakfast

When I was still young and still based in Manila, I hardly go out of our house without eating breakfast. And often, it’s heavy breakfast (not bread nor cereals but rice).

Now that I’m married and living abroad, breakfast is still the most important meal of the day. Since me and my hubby are both working, we usually eat rice in the morning. But with my condition right now, thinking of what to have for breakfast is really difficult. Most ideas are processed sausage, ham or bacon, and canned meatloaf or corned beef. The only time that we don’t have any processed nor canned food is when I cook eggs.

So I felt the need to search online for some breakfast ideas that I could cook that’s neither processed nor canned.. Do I have a lot of choices? Let me list down the things that I’ve found..

  1. dried, salted fish (tuyo, danggit). Unfortunately, this is not readily available in our local supermarket.
  2. tocino or longganisa. Same as above, not locally available. But maybe if I’m not too lazy, I’d try to make my own tocino/longganisa. At least I know that there won’t be any preservatives.
  3. omelette. I could potatoes or ground meat to make it more interesting.
  4. sunny side up, scrambled egg.
  5. tortang talong. Maybe I should grill/broil/boil the eggplant the night before so the prep time wouldn’t be too long.
  6. daing na isda. Any fish that will be marinated in vinegar, garlic, salt and pepper.
  7. tapa.
  8. salted egg (itlog na maalat) with tomatoes. Not available in our local grocery but I could buy it somewhere in the city (wag lang akong tamarin haha!)
  9. adobo.
  10. dilis.

As of now, these are the only things that I’ve found online. If you have other suggestions for breakfast, please feel free to comment here.

Now, making this list made me hungry! 🙂
